Adopt an Academy.

In January 2005, Fundación Televisa and Cisco Systems undertook a joint initiative through the program Adopt an Academy. Through this alliance, the Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana in Mérida, belonging to the Regional Academy in the Universidad Tecnológica de Tabasco, will be provided with the required infrastructure for their students to develop on-hands skills in the Cisco Networking Academy Program, it will also assume the responsibility to cooperate with the community.

Cisco Systems México established a commitment with our country and has expressed it through the use of information technology on behalf of the educational development in our country, carried on by the Cisco Networking Academy Program with the support of government, public and private education institutions, non-government and international organizations, as well as industry leader business. Fundación Televisa has elaborated many programs dedicated to drive the development of Mexican children and teenagers.

More than 100 students of this Academy are already members of this initiative. 36 students of the Telematic Information Technologies course, who are taking the 3rd module of the program, were elected to make professional practices in the media rooms of UNETE (Businessmen Union for Education Technology; Unión de Empresarios para la Tecnología en la Educación).

This is the first Academy adopted by a private foundation. We can foretell the success of the UT Metropolitana in this project, and we thank the enthusiastic participation of authorities, students and instructors.

We hope to see more alliances materialize in the near future, to help strengthen the technological education of the country.

Fundación Televisa's 365 days mission is to broaden the development possibilities of each person. For more information, please visit www.fundaciontelevisa.com.

Our student's opinion...

"After finishing CCNA 1 and 2, I am very excited to go on with the challenge of the next modules. The knowledge I've gained through the course has been very useful at my job and at school. I feel I have a knowledge advantage over my class mates who are not taking this kind of courses".

Software Support.

Cisco's software support is offered through several means of service agreements, and it provides the customers with the possibility to access IOS software upgrades and enhancements, as well as for the network's operating systems applications, at no additional cost.

Software support helps protect your network and your investment, by enabling you to easy extend and add new functionality to your devices or applications. Upgrades and enhancements are provided via downloads, while fixes and patches can be found at http://www.cisco.com.

As mentioned in earlier editions, through a Cisco's SMARTnet agreement customers have access to all Cisco IOS upgrades and enhancements.

Software Application Support (SAS) and Software Application Support Upgrades (SASU) agreement, enable customers to access upgrades and enhancements to applications beyond Cisco's IOS software, including Call Manager, Contact Center, Unified Messaging voice, CiscoSecure, Cisco Works, Wireless, IPTV e IPNC video, among others.

A support agreement help reduce enterprise's operation costs while increasing network's functionality with no additional charges. Consider the following: for version 9.0 of Cisco's IOS software (the current market version is 12.0), nearly 900 functionalities were gradually added. Without a service agreement, how much would the company have to invest to separately acquire each of these functionalities?.

One of Cisco's main goals offering the Program to students is to give them the possibility to improve their job opportunities when they graduate. This cannot be accomplished if students do not certify. The certification is the tangible proof that they posses the required knowledge to solve real world problems. Instructors have a lot to do with this issue as they are the students' example.

In accordance with the worldwide quality rules that control the program, instructors must get certified. For more information on this topic, please click here or contact Erica Peralta: eperalta@netacadlatam.com.

Retooling 2005 Overview.

As you already know, Retooling event takes place every year in order for Regional Academies to receive program updates, status, training improvements, and, of course, to hear the feedback of the Main Contacts of each Academy.

Following is the Retooling 2005 agenda:

Verónica Tostado, Area Academy Manager Mexico for the Cisco Networking Academy Program Mexico will welcome everyone; Everardo Huerta in charge of the Cisco Academy Training Center (CATC) in our country, will talk about very important topics, since last year we had several unfulfilled upgrade issues.

One of these topics are the bridge courses. These courses have been offered for free, but the results were not the expected. Therefore, during 2005 these courses are going to be instructor led, they will be mandatory, and the will have an additional cost.

Another relevant issue is the curriculum update, from version 2.1.2 to 3.1. Due date is August 2005. Academies that do not fulfill this requirement, will be cancelled.

Jackie Barker will talk about the program's quality, since she is part of the Networking Academy corporative and is in charge of the quality of the program as well as of the new site.

On the other hand, we will analyze current academies' status. After several monitoring and control visits to verify compliance of Regional Academies to the Quality Assurance Plan (QAP), we have identified Academies' weaknesses as well as areas that need to be reinforced.

Later, Isaac Majerowicz, Technical Manager of the Program will explain the new options of Academy Connection, the most important tool for Instructors and Administrators to manage the system. He will also talk about the Qtick program, designed to evaluate Regional Academies through Local Academies.

The operations team in Mexico will explain the advantages of being a graduate of the Program and the steps needed to join the program's Employment Exchange.

To finish, we will talk about Career Connection, a follow-up program to keep track of the features and advantages of the professional development of our alumni.

It is very important for Regional Academies to attend this event. The Retooling will be held during the Academy Conference 2005 on March 16 in the Centro de Convenciones Puebla.
